Workshop – A Moveable Feast
A book and video package. By telling the story of A Moveable Feast, a workshop about Workshop for artists, this book and accompanying video provide a vivid description and analysis of Workshop’s distinctive features. Using a combination of narrative, explanation and rumination, practitioner Tony Gee investigates the premise that Workshop is a distinctive creative form with its own politic, poetic and aesthetic.

“Get it! There’s nothing else like this for community and participatory arts practitioners.” Katie Venner, ex Director of Education and Training, South West Arts

“The book’s a feast in itself. I devoured it in one sitting and am now slowly chewing it over, savouring all the good bits.” Wendy Wharam, artist, storyteller and workshop leader.

“It reveals the magic which is workshop – I would like ALL my students to have a copy.” Sandy Akerman, Director of Headbangers Theatre Company and Performing Arts Lecturer at University of Exeter and South Devon College.

Take Away
A book and dvd package – A Workshop Handbook by Tony Gee plus The Golden Fish by Clive Austin
£ 10.99 (incl. Postage within UK – add £3 for international postage).

The DVD is a set of six interviews with footage of artists at work making a Museum to the Art of Workshop. The interviews feature the team that devised and delivered the Moveable Feasts; why workshop is an important form and what the feast is about. Accompanied and complimented by the thoughts of participating artists.

The handbook is the collected thoughts from the artists who took part in three Moveable Feasts in South West England. It focuses on three essential areas of workshop practice: the art at the heart of it, the social function it serves and the qualities and paradoxes of leading workshops. This is a work of collective authorship with a commentary that sets the context by Tony Gee and a Workshop Toolkit that provides a useful checklist as an epilogue.

" An illuminating film with a handy book that I can dip into at any page. It gives me fresh insight that makes me think about my practice in new ways." Amanda Stern, dancer, playback theatre practitioner and workshop leader.

"It was so exciting to find material that mirrored and described the work that I do and am passionate about. I devoured it!" Kate Green, digital community artist.
